El Paso’s first mass timber project begins CLT installation

The installation of cross-laminated timber (CLT) has begun at El Paso Water’s new headquarters! In partnership with Lake Flato Architects and Arup, Exigo Architecture is spearheading sustainable development by integrating this renewable material into a hybrid steel structure, significantly reducing the building’s carbon footprint. Thanks to the precision of pre-cut and pre-drilled CLT panels, construction manager Hensel Phelps completed the Level 2 floor deck in under a week, minimizing both labor and on-site waste while accelerating construction.

CLT offers a range of benefits—it’s lightweight yet strong, with excellent acoustic, fire, seismic, and thermal performance. This project marks a milestone in advancing green building practices in El Paso, setting a high standard for innovation and environmental responsibility in the construction industry.
