Cohen Stadium Redevelopment gives way to The Cohen District, a 90-Acre area designed to be a sustainable model for urban development. An iconographic destination recogniz¬able from a regional perspective.
Cohen Stadium opened in 1990 and it closed after 24 years of hosting El Paso Diablos, a Triple A minor league baseball Team. Since, the stadium has been sporadically utilized for festivals, concerts and special events, but the facility is no longer considered a premiere venue in the region. It is underutilized and becoming a costly maintenance burden to the City. The parcel on which the ballpark stands includes a total of 90 acres in size, consisting of 49 owned and developed by the city and the remainder 41 acres undeveloped.
