The International Water Quality Laboratory is a 26,000 SF facility used to analyze water samples for the water utility company and other agencies. The project consolidated 4 existing facilities located throughout the city into a larger, state-of-the-art laboratory. This new lab fulfills the needs of the utility company’s expanded role as a regional water supplier, and the need to provide analytical services for the International Boundary and Water Commission, TNRCC, and the City County Health Department. The floor plan design includes Analytical spaces, Administration offices, Pre-treatment operations, Wastewater administrative spaces, and a public meeting room. The structure is located within the property of an existing treatment plant that contains historic buildings. The building design incorporates the features and character of the historic buildings to blend contextually into the treatment plant campus.
