Exigo partnered with Marmon Mok Architecture and Jordan Foster Construction to design and build The Silvia A. Carreon Community Center, located in the Lower Valley area of El Paso within one of its largest and most utilized parks. The Community Center features various meeting and exercise spaces, including a gymnasium, cardio weights room, multi-purpose room, game space, and a community room with a stage platform, ample storage, and a courtyard for outdoor activities. The gymnasium, equipped with 160-seat bleachers, can be used as one official basketball court or be divided into two smaller courts using a roll-up divider curtain.
The community/meeting areas have easy access to restrooms divided by STC 65 curtain partitions. Each subdivided room has entrances from both the exterior and interior of the building, adding flexibility to the use of space. When used at maximum capacity, the community center can accommodate two games and three events simultaneously. The building design and systems are certified by the Green Building Initiative as GG II for resource efficiency and reduction of environmental impacts. The floor plan takes advantage of the surrounding green space by incorporating large windows in strategic places and a carefully specified sustainable fenestration system (U-factor and SHGC compliant).
The Center also features an 140′ long overhead canopy art piece designed by Blessing Hancock called Narrativa, which is made from core ten steel and features drawings collected from local elementary students. The piece was commissioned by the City of El Paso’s MCAD (Museum & Cultural Affairs Department).
