Exigo designed El Paso’s first and only Mexican American Cultural Center. The schematic design of the project to reflect and promote the values, traditions, and history of Mexican-American culture in the border region. The result is a distinct project that is not only functional but helps communicate the rich narrative of the community’s heritage. Located in the heart of El Paso’s Downtown Museum District, the MACC convert’s 20,000 SF of the original Main Library and a 20,000 SF addition into a modern Cultural Center with exhibit halls, black box theatre, auditorium, dance and lecture classrooms, culinary classroom kitchens, and a rooftop terrace.
The Center will be completed with an outdoor amphitheater, performance plaza and a large screen that will host evening concerts, and movie nights. The combined building renovation and addition will transform this city block into an iconic center and promote community gatherings and celebrations. Our collaboration with MGMP proved critical to create a focused Vision that translated into a functional and cost-effective facility that met all the desired program needs. Servicing, loading dock, internal security, and circulation, among other things, were critical to achieve Museum Certification.
