As one of El Paso County’s largest and most valued recreational destinations, Ascarate Park serves as a vital community asset with significant opportunities for enhancement. The project is grounded in the 2021 El Paso County Parks and Recreation Concept Plan. In addition, the planning process was driven by extensive community engagement.

The concept plan proposes a phased investment strategy that aligns project priorities with future funding opportunities and long-term operational sustainability. Key improvements include enhanced lake edges, improved water quality and stormwater management, a new multimodal trail system, upgraded circulation and accessibility, additional distributed parking, overhead electrical replacement, entry gateway, new perimeter road, waterfront decks, and expanded fishing opportunities.
