Inspired by Heritage

Designed for the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo Early Learning Center, this shade structure transforms an existing circular playground into an environment that celebrates cultural identity through architecture. Rooted in the artistic traditions of the Tigua people, the project integrates contemporary design with cultural expression, creating a meaningful setting for play, learning, and discovery.

The existing circular playground establishes the foundation for the design, informing the structure's radial geometry and orientation. Drawing inspiration from traditional Tigua pottery, geometric patterns and radial compositions are reinterpreted as perforated metal panels. Rather than applied ornament, these motifs become integral to the architecture, shaping its visual identity and the experience beneath.
